Our scholarship application will be open from February 1 - February 28, 2026. 

The Board will review applications in March and notify winners no later than April 1, 2026. 

 

The Peter and Henry Block Foundation aims to honor the dedication and bravery of Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service providers/caregivers and encourage civic service by offering scholarship funds to ease the financial burden of continuing education. 

 

Scholarship amounts will vary, with an intended maximum of $7,000 per awardee. 

 

The Foundation is offering two kinds of scholarships: Traditional and Non-traditional.

 

Traditional scholarships are for high school seniors starting college, university or vocational (trade) school who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Graduating this spring 2025

  2. Minimum GPA of 3.0

  3. Show proof of acceptance to college, university, or vocational program

  4. Have an affiliation with local Fire or EMS in one of three communities: (i) Putnam County, NY; (ii) St. Francis Preparatory School in Fresh Meadows, Queens, NY; (iii) FDNY 250. 

 

Non-traditional scholarships are for working adults/professionals seeking to advance their skills via special training programs who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Show proof of acceptance to a special training program

  2. Have an affiliation with local Fire or EMS in one of two communities: (i) Putnam County, NY; (ii) FDNY 250. 

 

All applicants must:

  • Write a 250 word essay or produce a 2 minute video

  • Supply two (2) reference letters

 

Applications will be accepted from February 1, 2026 through February 28, 2026.

 

This scholarship cycle represents the third and final year for the Block Foundation’s operations. No further grants or scholarships will be made after spring 2026.
